The United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) is a consortium of global operations and groups within the United Nations that promote policy change and development around the world. They pursue a set of 17 interconnected global goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all people by 2030. They cover issues ranging from climate action and clean energy to education, gender equality, and economic growth, and serve as a shared framework for governments, civil society, and international organizations to coordinate and measure progress.
To document their progress, the UN commissioned a report establishing a common base of knowledge across the UN system — spanning member organizations, government, and civil society partners worldwide.
Using the UNSDG's pre-established branding guidelines, I co-designed an intricate 64 page report. I was responsible for developing the typographic system, layouts, overall typesetting, and developing infographics.
Designed with Nadine Werjant under the oversight of Creative Director, Connie Koch, of Ahoy Studios.

We developed a comprehensive typographic hierarchy to manage the clear conveyance of complex information at scale — spanning table of contents, chapter heads, subsections, infographics, lists, citations, footnotes, photo credits, and body copy — all drawn from the Roboto family as part of the UN's established brand system.
Each Sustainable Development Goal is assigned a distinct high-contrast color and icon within the UN's brand system — a visual language we leveraged to untangle complex infographics and bring order and clarity to large volumes of information.

Photography was drawn from the UN's own library, offering moments of visual space and breath amid the report's typographic density.
Images were chosen for their dynamism and resonance with the UN's core goals. Subjects are shown active and living — working, accessing sustenance and healthcare, communing — lending to a sense of visual momentum to the written content. Selects favored candid images featuring movement over posed photographs or portraits.
