Printed Matter + 8-Ball Community NYC East Village Zine Fair T-Shirt

A4A (Anticapitalism for Artists) was an exhibitor at the annual East Village Zine Fair in 2023 and 2024, organized and hosted by 8-Ball Community and Printed Matter. I designed a t-shirt for us to sell at the fair to raise mutual aid funds. 

The t-shirt featured a definition of "commodity" in the Marxist sense, exploring how the concept relates to garment production — and, self-referentially, to the t-shirt itself. We printed on both blank tees and secondhand garments, upcycling pieces bearing graphics tied to capitalist entities: a Jaws Hollywood blockbuster tee, Mickey Mouse, Nike, and others.
